Shoulder and/ or arm pain is common. The shoulder
is the most mobile joint of the body and is therefore vulnerable
to injury. There are many causes of shoulder pain. It is important
to make an accurate diagnosis of the cause of your symptoms so
that appropriate treatment can be directed at the cause. Common
conditions include bursitis, rotator cuff tendonitis or tears,
frozen shoulder or shoulder instability. Arm pain can include
such causes as elbow tendonitis, elbow bursitis, carpal tunnel
syndrome, trigger finger, osteoarthritis of the hands, joint sprain
or even nerve compression from the neck.
Chiropractors are well trained in the diagnosis
and treatment of these inuries and conditions. In additional to
chiropractic manipulation, your chiropractor may recommend other
types of treatment for relieving your shoulder or arm pain. These
may include moist heat, ice packs, massage, ultrasound, traction,
or stretching and strengthening exercises. Sometimes, cases must
be referred to a specialist to consider surgery, casting or bracing.
Chiropractic is effective in the majority of cases. But if the
condition will not respond to conservative chiropractic care,
the proper referral to a specialist is made.
